Surface-mounted water meter for apartments REDAC RADIO

Surface-mounted residential water meter with REDAC radio adapter type EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO

The surface-mounted residential water meter with radio module type EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO is a single-jet, dry-running meter with a rotating meter head, making it ideal for both initial installations and replacements.

It is available in various lengths and nominal sizes, allowing it to be used in all standard installation situations.

The surface-mounted residential water meter with REDAC radio module type EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO can be installed both horizontally and vertically.

The EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO device comes equipped with a REDAC radio module. This allows it to be integrated into the EMS REDAC radio system as a smart radio water meter.

The surface-mounted water residential meter type EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO is manufactured in accordance with the MID Directive and conforms to standards ISO 4064 and OIML R49.

The EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO water meter is also available with a hard bearing upon request (this is recommended when the water meter is used in hot water recirculation systems).

Application and area of use of the surface-mounted water meter type EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO

The EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO meter is typically used for cold water supply up to 50 °C or hot water supply up to 90 °C in multi-family dwellings and apartments, as well as in single-family homes.

The rotatable register of the EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO allows for easy reading of the water meter readings in virtually any operating position. The EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO water meter can be installed in horizontal pipes with the register facing upwards (H) or to the side (H), or in vertical pipes with the register facing to the side (V).

Construction of the surface-mounted residential water meter with REDAC radio module type EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO

The REDAC radio surface-mounted residential water meter type EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-REDAC-RADIO essentially consists of two separate units: the mechanical surface-mounted residential water meter type EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-SMART and a factory-assembled, screwed, and sealed REDAC radio adapter.

This design also has the significant advantage that, after the MID compliance period expires, only the mechanical base meter type EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-SMART needs to be replaced.

The high-quality REDAC radio adapter can be detached and reused. This reuse is typically combined with a refurbishment process at the EMS plant.

Depending on battery life or condition, the module may also be usable without refurbishment.

Another advantage of the base meter/radio adapter principle is that, in the event of an electronic failure of the radio adapter, the meter can still be read on-site using the mechanical roller display.

This ensures that even in the event of an electronic or radio failure, reliable readings can still be obtained by visually reading the mechanical roller counter for billing purposes.

However, even in the event of an electronic or radio failure, reliable readings can still be obtained by visually reading the mechanical roller counter.

Advantages of the Basic Meter Type EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-SMART

  • Precise measurements:
  • Horizontal up to R 100 for cold and hot water
  • Vertical R 50 for cold and hot water
  • Highest resistance to strong external magnetic fields – the basic water meter EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-SMART offers the best resistance to external magnetic influences currently available. Protected dry-running water meters on the market. Their resistance to external magnetic fields far exceeds the requirements of EN-ISO 4064 and OIML R49.
  • No need for inlet and outlet sections before and after the water meter (U0D0)
  • The use of a mounting ring eliminates the need for copper wire and lead seals (compliant with the RoHS directive)
  • Each EMS SMARTMESS-JS-SMART base meter is also equipped with a highly durable and non-removable sticker on the mechanical counter side, displaying the technical and metrological data. This ensures that even after the installation of a radio module, M-Bus module, or pulse module, the metrological markings required by the MID remain visible and legible.

User-friendliness:

  • The basic EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-SMART water meter, with its integrated optical interface, is compatible with communication modules (REDAC radio module, WM-Bus module, Wired M-Bus module, or pulse module available).

    • Alarm notifications are possible – the water meter equipped with a radio module can, for example, signal module disassembly or removal, module malfunctions, backflow, or leaks.
    • Dry-running principle – this means there is no contact between the water and the mechanical roller counter mechanism. This is achieved through the consistent separation of a wet area with the impeller and a dry area with the roller counter. The main advantage of a dry-running meter is that the metering mechanism (usually a magnetically coupled counter) is completely isolated from the water. The water flow moves the impeller in the wet area, but the actual metering mechanism (mechanical roller counter) remains in the dry area, so no moisture reaches the mechanical components. This prevents corrosion and deposits that could impair the accuracy and lifespan of the meter.
    • Longer lifespan and reliability – because the metering mechanism in a dry-running meter does not come into direct contact with the water, the mechanical parts are better protected and less susceptible to wear from limescale, rust, or other water-related damage. This results in a significantly longer lifespan and improves the long-term reliability of the meter.
    • Higher measurement accuracy – the separation of the impeller and counter ensures that the metering mechanism operates precisely without being affected by deposits or moisture. The meter remains accurate over the years and does not lose precision, which can often be a problem with wet-type meters due to deposits or impurities.
    • Suitable for demanding applications – Dry-type water meters are particularly suitable for demanding applications requiring high accuracy and durability, such as in industrial plants, municipal water supply systems, or for measuring drinking water in areas with particularly hard water.
    • Thanks to a special hermetic seal, the EMS SMARTMESS-JS-SMART base water meter is extremely resistant to fogging and condensation inside.
    • Easily readable digits on the rollers of the mechanical counter, in two colors, allow for simple and error-free visual reading of the meter.
    • The rotatable counter (up to 358 degrees) allows for easy visual reading.
    • A specially reinforced cover over the counting mechanism provides excellent protection against mechanical stress.
    • Proven and robust design
    • Extremely durable meter construction

The scanning principle between the mechanical base meter EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-SMART and the factory-installed, screwed-in, and sealed EMS-REDAC radio adapter

Each EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-SMART base meter comes standard with an optical encoder disc. This disc has one half coated in black and the other half coated with a reflective material.

The black reflective disc on the EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-SMART base water meter makes the rotation of the counter visible to optical detection systems. The black side of the disc absorbs light, while the reflective side reflects it back.

The optical sensor (IR) built into the REDAC wireless adapter can detect the transition between the two areas (black and reflective).

Through the rotation of the disc, or rather the optical IR sensor, the processor of the REDAC wireless adapter’s electronic unit can count the revolutions of the counter and precisely measure water consumption.

This technology allows the REDAC wireless adapter to accurately and reliably record the meter reading without direct mechanical contact with the EMS-SMARTMESS-JS-SMART type base meter.
